Mohira Suyarkulova

Mohira Suyarkulova is an Associate Professor in the department of Psychology at the American University of Central Asia, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Although she was trained in International Relations throughout her undergraduate (BA from AUCA) and graduate studies (MLitt and PhD from St Andrews University, UK), she currently identifies as an ‘undisciplined scholar’, whose research is interdisciplinary and bridges academia, activism and art. Broadly speaking, Dr. Suyarkulova focuses on politics in Central Asia, most recently focusing on politics of environment, gender and sexuality in the region.  Since she defended her PhD thesis on Tajik-Uzbek relations in 2011, she has held teaching and research positions in universities of Europe and Central Asia. Mohira is also engaged in leftist, feminist and LGBTQ+ activism.
