Former Student Assistants

Franziska Collura


Franziska Collura was employed as a student assistant of the research group Social and Political Anthropology between May 2015 and September 2016.
The topic of her master thesis was "Die Re-Präsentation von Erinnerung. Nationsbildung durch Immigration am Beispiel des argentinischen Museo de la Inmigración". Pia Bühler

Pia Bühler was employed as a student assistant of the research group Social and Political Anthropology from October 2016 - February 2017. She wrote her BA-thesis on the topic of biographical interviews.


Carolin Hirsch

Carolin Hirsch was employed as a student assistant of the research group Social and Political Anthropology between January 2015 and December 2017.
Currently she is writing her PhD thesis on ""Rebel Becoming in Myanmar. Activism and infrastructural violence in urban Yangon".


Jessica Schmieder

Jessica Schmieder was a student assistant in the research group of Social and Political Anthropology between October 2017 and March 2020. She wrote her master thesis about "Environmental Activism in Jakarta -An Ethnographic Analysis of Strategic Action in Indonesia's Capital". Currently, she is preparing her PhD project on "Statelessness in Europe".


Anna Leidig

Anna Leidig was employed as a student assistant of the research group Social and Political Anthropology between November 2021 and April 2022. Her work focused on the reporting on the Rohingya Muslim minority and on supporting the cooperation with AllegraLab.


Leila Dedial

Leila Dedial was employed as a student assistant of the research group Social and Political Anthropology between November 2020 and February 2023. From March 2023 onwards, she fills a coordinating position in the "Hilde Domin Training Programme" at the University of Konstanz.


Former Lecturers (Wiss. Mitarbeitende)

Dr. Jon Schubert
Dr Jon Schubert was employed as Lecturer (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the working group between April 2021 and March 2022. He works on political and economic anthropology with long-time field research experience in urban Angola and Mozambique. As academic assistant he held courses in the BA Sociology and the MA Anthropology and Sociology and supervised BA and MA-theses. Starting in April 2022 he will lead the project PRECURBICA (Precarious Urbanisms in Coastal Africa) at the department for Urban Studies at the University of Basel.

Benedict Mette-Starke

Benedict Mette-Starke, MA was Lecturer (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) in the working group of Prof. Dr. Judith Beyer from November 2020 to April 2021. He taught the BA-seminar "Anthropology and Technics" and supported Prof. Beyer in the organization of the research colloquium "Social and Cultural Anthropology".

Benjamin Quasinowski

Benjamin Quasinowski completed his doctorate with supervision of Prof. Dr. Judith Beyer on "Institutional interaction in world-society — the case of workplace meetings of a hospital staff in rural Kazakhstan" in 2021. Eliza Isabaeva

Eliza Isabaeva was an associate member of the working group. Her research interests include social and intercultural communication with a geographical focus on Kyrgyzstan. She wrote her dissertation on "Negotiating Illegality in Kyrgyzstan: Re-Production of State Structures in a Squatter Settlement in Bishkek"  at the University of Zurich.
